Doesn't hurt to read another take on the idea.
What gives me hope for the Transformers Movie was that the main thing that
held it up was they wanted to make sure that the Transformers' faces were
capable of emoting/performing. That is a big deal because if they didn't
care about the characters this wouldn't have been a near show stopper.
OTOH, R2-D2, No. 5, Robocop, even to a small extent Haro, managed a
personality without a personal face. I am sure there are more
examples too... Robocop is interesting, he/it doesn't even emote in
his/its voice.
