Now that you woke up my mind more :) Repetitiveness is also part of
Gundam it seems. Repetitiveness definitely gets old.
Your correct, Turn A broke the formula. Thankfully, it did it right,
didn't it?

It isn't so much being derivative as it is being repetitive. The only
Gundam series in recent years that actually broke the formula was Turn A.
There have been variations in the enemies in other series, but the Gundam
has remained somewhat static.
