Not in the consumers' eyes unfortunately.  IIRC you hated the Turn A Gundam
design for a long time, as did many others.  We are so conditioned to the
standard Gundam design paradigms, though we may want to deny it, that we
don't like significant deviations.  It becomes a crapshoot of which changes
we accept and which ones we don't.  While the "accessories" and flash might
change a lot, they still tend to stick to established design paradigms.
Case in point is the recent "red villain Gundam" that started with the Epyon
in Wing.  It then got carried in to X, Seed, and Destiny.  While their flash
is different, there are a LOT of similarities.  It was cool at first but got
old after a while.
