Fukuda said the Destiny SE's were designed to be taken from Athrun's POV.
He's alledged to have off the record realised he screwed up Shinn, so
presumably using Athrun was because it would be easier then trying to tell
it from the extreme views of Shinn or Kira.

I haven't heard much about the special editions for Destiny - How were they

I haven't seen either the series or the movies. But from what I have read
it is a rehash of the series with edits to try and make it a little better.
