Oops, I didn't mean to hit the send button, luckily it was sensible
enough that someone understood it...
To elaborate... After touching down somewhere in current day US, Char
and Garma were chasing the WB away from Jaburo and pushing them deep
into Zeon territory. But that threat was largely gone when Garma died
in Episode 10. So now they are somewhere in current day Washington
state and British Columbia, what's their next order? If their
objective was to keep the RX-series and fancy warship out of Zeon
hands and deliver them to the Feds, taking the flight from BC to
Belfast is relatively quick and easy (takes about 10 hours in a 747).
And in the end they did get to Belfast, and finally Jaburo. I just
wasn't sure what's the purpose to going West (to Japan?). For
repairs? Or the HQ wanted them to harass and distract Zeon's Asia
occupation? Or even to participate in the Battle of Odessa?

the no-mans's land of the Pacific and east Asia. I can only guess that
Bright really wasn't well informed about the situation on Earth and decided
to try and run away from where he thought the Zeon were most likely to look
for him
Somehow I don't think it was Bright's decision to make. The way the
WB crew were treated in Luna II, the Feds care a lot about their new
toys than Bright's judgment. I think the WB was ordered into Asia,
but who decided that and why?
