Evidently the oil sheiks are watching G00.

Reality Nov 10, 2007:
"France [Economy Minister] urges oil producers to raise capacity"

SciFi 2307 (broadcast on Nov 10, 2007):
"[Azadistan's] Marina is meeting with the French foreign minister
about getting technical assistance for solar power generation"

And then...
http://marketplace.publicradio.org/display/web/2007/11/12/opec_summit/

Quote:
OPEC says it just wants to be sure there's a market for oil exports
five, 10, or 15 years from now. If the U.S. and Europe are going to
encourage alternatives, like solar, wind and bio-fuels, OPEC worries
demand will dry up and investments in extra capacity would be a waste
of money.

Quote:
They[OPEC]'re saying ... that if you [the West] do try to go full
steam ahead in developing alternative energies we're not going to make
it easy for you.

Well fair enough, if someone really do build a solar power system that
makes fossil fuel irrelevant, OPEC is staring at Azadistani future
square in the face, and not even 300 years, but more like 50. So as
long they still hold some kind of string, they are going to pull it,
before someone else snip it for them. Mr. Al Gore, take your precious
little Oscar and Nobel statuettes and sit in the corner where you
belong.
