In other cases, you'd think that the nations themselves would have
some interest in investing in the development of alternative energy
sources. Given how hot and dry the region is, you'd think that
research into improving the efficiency of solar farms would be a
given. They've certainly got enough oil money to invest in the
research. And the oil will run out eventually. The question is
whether it'll happen before or after workable alternative energy
sources are developed.
If I were the Saudis, I definitely wouldn't be happy about the recent
emphasis on alternative fuels. But at the same time, I'd also have
been investing heavily in that exact same area for the last ten
years. Then when oil finally does become no longer tenable, the new
energy infrastructure would already be in place and people would STILL
be getting their energy from the Arabian Peninsula.
No shit. I don't get why oil companies are crying about the state of
things instead of investing in reactors to crack water (hydrogen) or
corn for ethanol. Companies are too greedy and short-sighted. Most
airlines suck now, offering less in the flights, they cry about jet fuel
cost, crowded airports, terrorist threats. But, for example here in
L.A. where I am, are any of those idiots funding bullet trains to Vegas
and San Fran and San Diego? No. It's so obvious. Some people are
still afraid of terrorists taking over their plane or the plane simply
failing and crashing, they hate the long security lines in airports, the
lousy service. Trains! A quick train to Vegas, you can walk around,
drink, maybe even have a stripclub or gambling car. Quick trip to San
Francisco or San Diego, no worry about crashing planes, no worry about
losing your luggage, the airlines should be on top of this. Oil
companies should be on top of reactors right now. We'll still need oil
for plastics and other things, the trend is for alternate fuels,
non-oil, they should get reactors rolling, electrify the entire train
system here, get rid of diesel locomotives, they'd own it all and be
buried in money!
