As Karl suggests below...
one "i"ndividual = one membership (in the organization)
one membership = one vote (no corporation)
So, with all of the individuals on the planet potential members, the
collective "i"ndividuals can be viewed as participants in an organization
which symbolizes its members with a symbol called "i". It is a way
building an organization of members, whose atomic unit is symbolized in the
organization itself.
My suggestion is that the membership organization be called "THE i" (1) in
recognition of the atomic unit being "individual" and that it be open to
any person, worldwide, and no corporation.
This symbol resonates with the name "ICANN" (which reads like "I can" which
has a positive meaning), which from a marketing standpoint, has tremendous
relevance, flexibility, and potential. It also fits with the values
approach suggested by Stef. It happens to fit with a larger framework for
building democratic involvement using interactive communications, a portion
of which was funded by a DARPA grant in 1994/95.
