Dear combatants:
It's hard not to get splattered when the mud slinging begins.
Personality attacks of any kind are counter-productive egoism.
So much uncontrolled rage and chaos lend credence to those
who'd impose imperial rule. Why not try personal democracy?
Please, let's stop projecting old wounds into current realities.
Deal with the here and now. Let's be real in our souls about
what drives us, be it public service, private greed, an unmet
childhood need for attention, anything. We all know inside
why we are participating in this contest to govern the net,
why we take time for these listservs. We know the stakes
for ourselves, for our families, for our world.
If we can admit our motives, if only to ourselves, maybe,
just maybe, we can get it though our scared skulls that
we're all interactive in this life. What we do to others, we
do unto ourselves. Must we recreate Columbine High or
Kosovo in our midst? Let's stop being so afraid of not
getting our needs met, and take some responsibility.
Please think about consequences. Let's start fresh.
