The biggest flaw Android has comes from Google. Now of course if it wasn't for Google Android would not exist. But same could be said for much of like what RedHat does. However RedHat understands open source, and thus you have things like CentOS. Not to mention RH stuff on just about every distro out there. Even Sun was really good back in the day, most all their stuff is modular. Don't like this, swap it out and replace it with that. It gives the end user choice, and thats most important. Never take away choice. Its really unique to Google because no other company has the need to integrate devices so tightly into the services they provide. Its like further locking you into the Google platform. Like trying to use Yahoo or Bing to search on an android phone. Or using mapquest vs Google maps, good luck. Most any payment transaction on Android is done via Google Checkout, no PayPal option etc.... Its fine if Google wants to bundle things like Microsoft and IE. But can't believe they don't provide users means to remove that stuff. At least after the G1 I don't think you have to create a Google account to use your phone. Thats was something I really did not like at first. Though I am not sure how else you can use the market without a google account. > At any rate, dont have an android based phone but anticipate getting > one. I'll be sure to research rootability prior to making a purchase. Well the root aspect comes from another factor. Had to explain this to a few buddies including one whos an engineer at Cisco. If you want to use your phone as a wifi hotspot, mobile wap, you either pay the carrier a fee. Or you root your phone and do it for free... Now that I kinda understand, they have to try to make money some how. Nothing in life is free, and if you want to root and risk bricking your phone. Then I guess you deserve free wifi hotspot after. Its still very different than what Google is doing to the Android platform. Thankfully others have efforts underway, and maybe one day will see an Android free of Google, but with optional Google stuff :) -- William L.
