Thanks Cameron.  Debug is and has been off.   There was a really interesting presentation about the garbage collection process at CFUnited last summer.  At the time much of it went over my head, especially since it was day 3 (5 for me actually) of being there I was getting pretty close to saturated!    I need to go back over that information and google the items you listed below.  I have a feeling that the last week or so of immersing myself in metrics stack trace dumps may have hardened me a bit and better prepared me to revisit that topic. :)
