I set it up to try it out this last weekend, just
to see what it was like. WAY too slow IMHO.
To create a simple user object (5 fields, only 10
rows in table so far), set the fields to a value and save to the database (about
10 lines of code) - took over 3000 milliseconds!! Wowsers! And
getting data - slooooow.
Eh, I'll pass for now. =)
I use a DAO / Bean type of methodology for my data
objects and I have some core objects I extend which makes it go pretty quick
(like built in event methods onBeforeSave(), save(), OnBeforeDelete(),
loadFromQuery(), etc). As an additional bonus, if you install the CF-FB
extensions for Flex builder, you can have it generate your bean, DAO and a
gateway object for each table in the database with about 3
clicks. Also, you might check out CF PowerTools, it will generate this
same starting code for you as well and has some additional
features.
Databases don't change that often, and I find that
modifying my source after the fact is fairly quick and painless - especially if
you've made sufficient unit tests for your objects. Its really the initial
creation of your components that I think most people use this type of thing
for. So, why take a continuing (fairly serious) performance hit, just to
save yourself a little time (that can be quickened with other generators
out there - FlexBuiler/CFPT - etc)
TMMV
