I shudder to think what the legacy code those COBOL coders have to wade
through.  Or maybe I'm wrong in assuming that every COBOL app out there is
at least as old as I am.

ColdFusion is doing just fine -- I personally believe that it's in part due
to an increase in the complexity of the language/ the more frameworks,
packages, components out there/ etc.. This increases usefulness (and thus
demand) and requires us CF people to be more savvy, not just people who
could do HTML and learned how to do queries and loops, increasing both the
job opportunities and starting salaries.

It's a good time to be a geek.

In principle I agree with you, ColdFusion is not dying.  Please note:  I
heard from a friend the other day that a company headquartered in the same
building was looking to hire fifteen COBOL programmers.  So I guess its a
bumper market for COBOL too.
