One thing I should mention is that
when you are doing some of these things with remote filesystems that
are effectively treated like local ones, remember the features Eclipse
comes with and you may understand what could be slowing it down. Of
course this all depends on how fast a network the resource is over, etc.
Here are some items that can be happening when the workspace is being
refreshed, some CFE related, others not:
- Searching for todos, etc.
- Updating of local history
- Loading of subversion (.svn)
directories
- Checking for files not in
subversion repositories, and new assets that could be used such as jar
files, images, etc.
Just some food for thought.

if you go to the .project file and change the network
drive letter to one local, start eclipse, then reedit it, it works ok.
I've found putting a project on a network drive (esp over vpn) is a
MAJOR pain in the rear.
It can take ALONG time to refresh the workspace.

Has
anyone ever had problems creating a project where the working folder is
on a network server? I have a lot of problems with CFE maintaining the
project. It seems like everytime I restart my pc and launch CFE, the
workspaces are closed and it literally takes two hours to refresh the
project aarrrggghhh

Different
workspaces allow you to have different sets of projects and
properties. For example, if I am doing a demo I may not want the
audience to see my normal projects, so I might just create a new clean
workspace.

On another note, I had a question pop up about Workspaces and projects.
I have always put all my projects under the same workspace, what are
some reasons for having multiple workspaces?

Thanks

I've noticed in the latest versions of CFEclipse that there is a tool
bar just above the editing window but below the tabs that represent my
open files. That tool bar has it's own tabs: CFML Basic, CF FLow,
CFDocument, CFML Advanced.
Can someone tell me how to get rid of that thing? It's just taking up
space and I don't use it.
Also, I know there's been a discussion of favorite plug-ins, but I'm
wondering more specifically peoples preferred methods of obtaining
Eclipse itself? I've recently used the distro link from
eclipse.org to
build my own custom package. There were a number of links to sites that
provided these pre-built or build 'em yourself distrobutions, and
specifically I used Yoxos. Does anyone else use these sorts of pre-built
distro's?
Incidentally, the CFEclipse and all CF related plug-ins (at least at
this one particular site) are being grouped under the heading "Web"
while PHP gets listed under Programming Languages > Other. Just one
more example of folks not believing that CF is a programming language.
:o/

Chris
