I have used these (and the Dual-port Pro/1000 MT version) in pfSense with no problems.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback!

The specific cards I'm looking at are listed on the HCL, but I've learned the hard way that that doesn't always mean it actually works, let alone is production ready. I had one motherboard with a supported chipset, and dual onboard NICs with a supported chipset, but it turned out only one NIC would work at a time due to limitations in the driver. Oops.

I bought a replacement motherboard using a "supported" chipset, but it turned out that FreeBSD's ACPI implementation was too buggy and would eventually hang unless you could disable a certain ACPI feature in the BIOS or tweak the kernel or boot options or something. The mobo didn't offer a switch for that feature, and the tweaking required reached the point of defeating the point of running a all-in-one package like pfSense.

The HCL is a great starting point, but I consider nearly all hardware to be a gamble with FreeBSD until someone confirms it actually works in pfSense out of the box.

As always, the community is what makes pfSense awesome, and again, I really appreciate all the feedback.
