By using lists and hover states you've limited yourself to rectangular
hotspots, and haven't really gained anything as far as I can see. You've
also lost any ability to have links in the little pop-ups, because they
disappear as soon as you try to mouse over to them.

If you are concerned about users without javascript, one way to accommodate
them is to simply have all the popups visible (and linked to from the map
areas) by default, and to use js to hide them. Users with js get the full
effect; users without get an imagemap with links to the popup content."

Hello Geoff,

It's a CSS experiment. It's not a matter of just having to get something
done. I wanted to challenge myself with trying to combine two CSS goodies.
An independent solution without JS.

I don't understand what you mean by popup as it differs from what I offer,
but I think you may be misunderstanding the link part of this. The popup in
my case is *the* link, as is the part of the map which causes it to show
(the hot spot). The hot spot isn't a link to the popup, it's one in the
same. If you click that location, or the pop-up portion, it (the one link)
is meant to take you off of that page entirely, if this were part of a web
site.

In the original build it was a builders' site map (building lots). When
hovered over, or focused on, the popup shows to give some general info and
to say there's more if the user clicks. When clicked it brings the user to a
new page featuring a large image of the spec home assigned to that lot with
a good length of detail lot information. The popup is meant to just give
general info to help the user determine if it's a link they want to follow.

In the original build I had another set of CSS properties and a third image
as well. I had also scripted it so it would do several things if the site
owner marked that lot as "Sold" to indicate this to the visitor.

Mike
