Dear Lachlan,

Having seen the bragging and incorrect claims by AGIMO that they lead the world by example in e-governance and awards by AGIMO to sites with many W3C validation errors, I would be very cynical of such claims.

If AGIMO had anything to do with the forms, they will be flawed. They could have just used labels in both versions, I image the forms will be full of javascript to check you didn't leave your religion of "Jedi knight" out of the census.

Who is really pushing the case for accessibile website standards in Australia, a few individuals only I believe. Does Vision Australia send out non-compliance notices to companies with bad websites like RNIB do in the UK. Has Vision Australia taken any action under the DDA 1992 like Americans have against Target?

I am tired of low standards in the Australian government websites and organisations who do nothing effective to force change. Vision Australia demand nothing from the government and they get nothing in return. They like to work with their clients while creating a false impression internationally that the Australian government is hanging on their every word. The Australian government could not care less what Vision Australia does, yet Vision Australia does nothing but let the status quo continue.

I have a personal grudge against Vision Australia for wasting my time and not supporting their clients with any real action, I applied for a job with Vision Australia, was lied to that they were very busy at the end of the financial year and would get back to me in a month. Meanwhile they appointed someone else to the position who resigned after two weeks, then they asked me in for an interview where they took detailed notes of all my suggestions and then re-advertised the position probably hoping to find a more compliant personality who will toe the compliant line at subservient Vision Australia.

I haven't reviewed the entire form yet (I won't be able to get past the login till I get a form number), but just based on the login form, they appear to have used <label>s in the accessible version, and omitted them from the inaccessible version. It'll be interesting to see what other silly things they've done with the rest of the pages.
