... you also cannot _resize_ text which is represented using graphics.

Please consider that the most common accessibility problem on sites is _still_
text which is too small ... even if only for the sake of my poor failing eyes!
:D

I have an almost daily battle to convince various designers that "10px Arial is
_not_ the ideal font size"! (I, for one, cannot read this ... and I'm only 31
and my eyesight is actually pretty good)

Absolutely!

The point is that it is not necessary to specify the exact dimensions and
properties of every aspect of a page in order to achieve this.

Having sent a link yesterday to Alex Poole's site (http://www.alexpoole.info/),
I was having a look around ... I like it a lot. I think it looks very nice -
simple, elegant - using "elastic" techniques that allow the design to resize
whilst maintaining the integrity of its appearance. It's simplicity also makes
it easy to override anything a user might find difficult.

One of my bete noires is sites which break when the text is resized a couple of
"notches" up. I see this _so_ often, and it irks me.

There are other things to consider vis-a-vis accessibility, of course ... but
you're probably going the right way if you've considered this type of thing.

The reason I made my initial point is that, IMHO, the residual approaches of
print design are still, regrettably, prevalent and are totally incompatible
with good web design at a fundamental level.

I think that good, accessible web design is, in fact, always better design more
generally ... because it takes proper consideration of its context and
audience. After all, a beautiful wheel made of gold is not really a wheel at
all ;D
