I do have agreement now to change these pages, so they'll disappear very
soon - no need for a review, ta. I wasn't thinking of automated
testing - more about pages suddenly breaking with a new browser version.
But it is disappointed that I needed to convince non-techies - the
browsers should simply have spat the dummy at multiple head tags (or the
spare tags that Raena noticed). See below for a further test. I got
bored after making 5 complete pages within table cells within other
pages. It works fine in the versions of IE, Firefox and Opera I have.
My university Web Publishing System was put together when table layout
was the only real option and it was built so that standard office
software (MS Word) could be used and non-web developers could carry out
most editing processes. Hence the restrictions on what you can do. The
website isn't too bad (considering) for accessibility and usability, and
the search engine works pretty well. Which is another reason why those
pages have to go - as Tim suspected, the search was having trouble
finding text in the second head.
Cheers, Meredith
