i'm not quite sure what you mean here. the revised original menu listed all
of the main links in a tree(?). what i want to do is hide the subnav parts
and have them exposed on hover. now what you are saying, i think, is that
this is not a user friendly way to do the vertical menu.

the menu in your article did not slide out on hover. was it supposed to?
since i received no response, i could not tell what the menu was supposed to
do.

i'm sure you worked the menu i made. the fly-outs were listed under the
main heading in the pre-revised menu.

i forgot to mention the javascript problem. i don't know how to implement
it for it to work. i don't know how to code the page to link to the js
file.

now you have gone and done it. ;^) i am thinking about a horizontal drop
down menu if what i have will fit a 800x600 resolution when the text is
zoomed 2x. this way i can emulate the menu you have given to the community
and it will work regardless of js.

but, i digress. what did i miss in the link you gave me with regard to the
way i have done it?

Hi Dwain,
Did you think of using an "accordeon" menu?
IMO, they are more "user-friendly" than flyout menus.
You could try something like this [1] but implementing it as I do with the
dropdown menus.
Hiding the nested ULs through "display:none", except the sub-menu relevant
to each section.
