Heh... I too thought ptrace looked the most likely candidate. But on further examination, it turned out ptrace was a call, and not abinary to be used. :-/ Anyway, I've done some testing, and it seems to me the main issue is cpu-usage. The box I'm using is an old P2-266, with 192MB RAM. Dovecot uses less cpu than Binc, which is probably why the speed-difference is so noticable - it's common than Binc's cpu usage is at 100 percent over a period of a few seconds. I'll try installing the same setup on a box with an AMD 1200, and see if the difference is as noticable as before, but I imagine it is not.
So, very sorry about blabbering about speed in an earlier post - I think this is mostly due to my setup, not because of Binc. :-/ Regards, Lasse Danielsen
