As mentioned, find out what CALs you have at you are currently using. Then
contact MS. It may be cheaper to upgrade your CALs and gain access to SCCM
then to buy SCCM licenses outright. It’s hard for anyone to give you ballpark
figure here, you really need to give MS a call.

As of now we are not planning to manager servers using SCCM...just the
desktop/laptops. Servers are our next thought. They are using bladelogic and
WSUS to patching.
We are using Symantec Altiris here but that product is not easy to use. When we
deploy any applications or patch, it is very tough to find the root cause of
the issues. The logs does not say much about the deployment.

From one of the forum, i got the SCCM client license as $62...if this true.
Sure i will contact microsoft, but that is a big process. Before that i would
like to get a an approximate license cost for SCCM product (for patching,
deployment, OSD) and /client...so that i can propose to business.

As Mark says there is no cost for deploying Site Systems – you can have as many
as you want. However when you install a client on a desktop you will need a
Client Management License. When you install the client on a server you will
need a Server Management License. You can read about this here

You should really contact your Microsoft License Reseller about this as it can
be a complex area.

You don’t need a license for setting up SCCM on servers, no matter how many
servers you need to put it on to manage SCCM. Now if you use SCCM to manage
those servers, then yes you need a server license.

The ML is for the ConfigMgr server itself I think. You need CAL’s for your
desktops. It’s device based.

We do not have any CAL's ? I am in a confusion to chose with CAL or ML.
I am not sure how the price would vary if we go with User based or Device Based?

Our Symantec Altiris licensing is going to expire june end and Instead of going
with Symantec, I am proposing SCCM...

Or check to see what CALs you have, you might already own it.

For 700 you may have to go to a reseller like CDW or SHI.

Your best bet might be to contact Microsoft about pricing.
