We actually have done that and get an IP address both in WinPE and once it reboots into windows. It seems that at some point, once it reboots into windows, the usb adapter is literally not physically being seen by the laptop; unless you physically remove and re-instert the dongle. By then, the damage is done; the domain is not joined and the image does not complete properly.
