That's correct.

The particular USB NIC that came with this M3800 is a realtek. Model #
dbjbcbc064. Looks like yours is a TrendNet device, correct? I looked up the
TU2-ET100 and that is what the results suggested.

The one we are using also came with the 3800. Is yours not the same model? I
went to the manufacturer website to get the drivers not Dell BTW. Our image is
Win 7

Interesting. Thanks for the input. This further suggests that the particular
USB 3.0 NIC that comes with the M3800 we purchased might have issues
initializing properly.
Thanks to Kevin's input, I am currently reimaging and watching the
"setupapi.dev.log" to see if anything interesting reveals itself. I've also
tracked down a generic USB NIC to try next.
Thank you to everyone for the input, so far.

I spoke too soon. The Tech working on the new M3800's we got said it did
complete successfully last night. All I did was add the The particular USB NIC

driver to the driver package. I was also wrong about not being able to get the
driver injected in to PE. It was a different driver that was failing.
I was able to get the TU2-ET100 drivers by install it on a PC (any PC) and
copying the files from C:\Program Files (x86)\TU2-ET100

For the most part, we have standardized on the Dell USB 3.0 NIC and the Surface
NIC. Works for the most part. We have not done an M3800 as we rarely have a
Precision workstation. Oh add to the confusing mess that sometimes you can
get different results depending on whether you use a 2.0 or 3.0 port.

I'm starting to get that feeling. The only other USB NIC's that I have handy
are lenovo's and the bios on the M3800 seems to reject those immediately. Even
if I put the boot-image (to PXE boot) onto a usb stick with the lenovo driver.
I am thinking I might need to just find some more dell USB NIC's and try those
but this is going to end up being a mess if we decide to use these precision
laptops more frequently. I can't imagine telling our field engineers to just
"keep trying different usb NICS until one works".
Thank you for your help. Hopefully, we'll get a workaround.

We have had that issue. We also have 3-4 different USB NIC's. Some models
just seem to act stupid with different adapters. One doesn't seem to work, we
plunk in a different one with a different mfgr NIC (many use the Axis NIC but
there are others out there). Yes, it's frustrating.

We actually have done that and get an IP address both in WinPE and once it
reboots into windows. It seems that at some point, once it reboots into
windows, the usb adapter is literally not physically being seen by the laptop;
unless you physically remove and re-instert the dongle. By then, the damage is
done; the domain is not joined and the image does not complete properly.

The driver needs to be in both your boot image and applied to your image during
the image processes.

I am having issues getting a Dell Precision M3800 Laptop to join the domain
when imaging. I am using the usb 3.0 ethernet adapter dongle that came with
the laptop. Has anyone else had any issues with this?
