Thanks for the input, Warren. Oddly enough, the usb NIC that came from Dell
with the laptop was not successful in joining the machine to the domain during
imaging. I ended up having to use a non dell USB NIC to get it to work. There
seemed to be issues with initializing that USB NIC at certain points during the
imaging process.

If you would like me to provide any clarification on that, I am happy to do so.

Thanks again,

Dell - Internal Use - Confidential
One key item to note with USB NICs and PXE. The PXE support in the BIOS is
usually keyed to only 1 USB NIC device, so taking a "try a different USB NIC"
approach is guaranteed to generate frustration. We are trying to drive
standardization of USB and dock NIC's at Dell to simplify OSD, but for various
reasons that doesn't always happen. So make sure you start with the NIC that
is for the given system and documented to support PXE on that platform.

Thanks,

We have had that issue. We also have 3-4 different USB NIC's. Some models
just seem to act stupid with different adapters. One doesn't seem to work, we
plunk in a different one with a different mfgr NIC (many use the Axis NIC but
there are others out there). Yes, it's frustrating.

We actually have done that and get an IP address both in WinPE and once it
reboots into windows. It seems that at some point, once it reboots into
windows, the usb adapter is literally not physically being seen by the laptop;
unless you physically remove and re-instert the dongle. By then, the damage is
done; the domain is not joined and the image does not complete properly.

The driver needs to be in both your boot image and applied to your image during
the image processes.

Subject: [MDT-OSD] Dell Precision M3800 Joining Domain

I am having issues getting a Dell Precision M3800 Laptop to join the domain
when imaging. I am using the usb 3.0 ethernet adapter dongle that came with
the laptop. Has anyone else had any issues with this?

Thank you,
