I do not have any experience with DROBO….however, a question for consideration…
With the EMC (or HP, or NetApp, or….other mainstream provider), if something breaks, you can have parts in hand and an engineer on site literally within hours, either from EMC/HP/NetApp/etc or from a third party provider. Can you say the same for the DROBO? What happens if the main controller goes bad? Can the schools stomach days of downtime if that level of support is not available from DROBO? It currently hosts about 40 VM's for three schools and total network storage of about 1 TB. A friend mentioned looking at the Drobo b1200i. It looks pretty good and the price is great. Anyone have any thoughts about this comparison or experience with it? Thanks!
