Hi Mike,

A couple of thoughts.

The CBR is going form 72 volts of Hawkers to 48 volts of Yellow Tops. I have the new batteries, FINALLY, so now I just need to redesign the subframe again.

I'm not sure what your design goals are for this bike, but this sounds similar to one of the many configurations I have used on my bike. I had similar sized batteries on my bike for a while and managed about 10 mile range. I would expect you to get about the same with the Optimas (unless they are the larger Group 31 version). Also at 48V your top speed will be limited.

Now, let me get your opinions on something. I am thinking very seriously of releasing the schematics and source code to some sort of open source license. There many different licenses and I don't know which would be best. I envision a community of people adding features and bug fixes to both the hardware and software of this project. I'm thinking I might design a PCB and have a bunch made to sell at a very reasonable cost - enough to cover expenses.

Thoughts? Comments?

I would not make many extra boards unless you have orders and deposits from people. As cool as the whole thing is, it is likely that when it comes to actually forking over money there will not be very many people interested.

To be honest I can't even remember exactly what the features of the boards are, but I remember looking at them when you posted a link and being impressed. Still if you use me for an example, I have been riding my bike for over two years now knowing how nice it would be to have an Emeter, but it wasn't until just recently that I convinced myself to shell out the $360 to purchase an Emeter and prescaler. As cool as your boards are, it is unlikely that I would ever buy any because my bike is always very low on my budgeting priority list.

As far as posting the schematics and software I doubt that there will be much interest in collaboration. If you put it out there you are sure to find a few folks who are thrilled that you have. Most people will be looking to learn from your effort without putting in much of their own.
