Generally you don't, as most motors do not have the proper connections exposed to do this. The series, parallel switching you hear about on the EVDL is done with two motors not one. When two motors are wired in series the each get full current and split the voltage (more torque.) When they are connected in parralllel, they each get full voltage and split the torque (higher top speed.)

It is possible to to take a motor apart and bring all the necessary connections out of the case to switch the wiring of the motor for a similar effect. Jim Husted has been toying with this idea, but I am not aware of anyone that is running a series, parallel setup on a single motor.

Hi guys,

The problem with running EM.net is that people think I know what I'm doing. Case in point, this email I recently got from George. Just how does one switch 'tween serial and parallel? I know you can toss a 'Zilla with a Hairball in the mix but that's out of the reach of most us. Big ol' relays?

How do you get a motor to run in parallel and then series?
