I will be up at his shop today and will ask him. He wants to start selling
complete electric bikes and know he will be about $9000 for a complete bike.
I'll see what he wants for the frame.

Hi Everyone,

I just posted some pictures of a new EM project I am working on. Actually,
it's been underway for a while, I have just been too busy to post pictures
and share.

I am working with Jeff Patterson at Patterson Cycles here in S Florida on a
new bike. Last year he built a gorgeous custom frame electric street bobber
using the wheels off of a '08 Road King. There are pictures up on the EMNet
gallery. I loved the bike at first site, even before it was painted and
finished. He has built another frame, identical to the first one he built,
that I am working with on building up. Jeff has done all the fabrication on
the frame and getting the rolling frame finished. I have been helping out
where I can on some of it, but Jeff is a real master and artist when it
comes to metal work.

The bike is using a front end and wheels off of a Sportster and forward
controls off of Softail. I put a new Metzler 160 tire on the back and Metz
on the front. As far as electrical parts, the batteries are the new
Discovery EV24A batteries. Discover is the EV/traction battery line from
Enersys (makers of the Odyssey batteries). 6 of them in series for 72VDC.
The controller is the Alltrax 7245 72V 450A controller. Motor is a custom
7.5" DC motor from the motor god himself, Jim Husted at Hi-Torque. Battery
charger is a Zivan which will be mounted on the bike under the tank covers.

Jeff Patterson had originally gone with a stock 6.7" motor on his bike,
however, it was just too small and got too hot. After working with him on
testing it, I got him in touch with Jim Husted who built up a 7.5" series
wound 8 brush motor. That was just the ticket. The new motor was 30lbs
heavier, but the perfect motor for the bike. Jim built another 7.5" motor
for my bike, but with slightly different field coils. We are going to
compare the two motors on the bikes to see which one runs and performs
better.

When it's finished it will weigh right at 620-630 lbs and will have a range
of 40-45 miles, which is what Jeff's bike is getting. Florida is pretty flat
and we don't have any hills to worry about!

I'll post some more pictures as work progresses; we are trying to get it
running before next weekend when the FLEAA has the Battery Beach Burnout
(www.batterybeach.com <http://www.batterybeach.com/> )

See ya,

Shawn
