I want to thank all of you who gave me advice and help with this. I got my
electric motorcycle conversion running the other day. It still has some
work that it needs, but I got to run it up and down the street and around my
neighborhood a few times. I don't have the lights hooked up yet, still
trying to figure out if I want to run a separate 12v batter, or get a dc-dc
converter and run it off the main power batts. As of right now I have an
'88 Honda Hurricane 600 F1 chassis, 48v/50ah SLA batteries, Kelly KD72400
controller, Mars ME0709 motor, and Magura throttle. My gearing is 14/71
with a 530 chain. That back sprocket is almost the same size as the rim. ha
ha. I wanted to try to make a cheap commuter bike. The top speed goal was
about 35 mph. I reached about 32.5, so I am happy with that. I might try
to reconfigure the battery layout and see if I can't get 72 volts to fit in
there. My goal was to also keep it real clean looking, without having a
bunch of huge batteries sticking out the sides. Right now the bodywork will
still fit on it. I just got a couple of AgniMotors model 95 with reinforced
armature that allows up to 6000 rpm. I might try to put that in when
everything is finished to get a good back to back comparison.
