Thanks Matthew Ishai and Nigel have tested it; it appears to not be a problem with SPD, but WSS. Unfortunately there is no event id on my server associated with it .It probably has to do with my installation. I'm guessing it is either my setup of ASP.NET, or permissions on my sql. I've had to restore from a backup my sharepoint sites previously, so this might have something to do with it.
No I don't have any support agreements.
