Hi Mitch,

Just wondering if you had followed this procedure for your Scrum project and if its a possible cause of no data in the burndown report?

Note:

For Product Backlog Burndown Charts to work correctly, it is imperative to create a link between parent Product Backlog Items and child Sprint Backlog Items, using the "Links" tab. This link can either be created between a Product Backlog Item and a Sprint Backlog Item or between a Sprint Backlog Item and Product Backlog Item.

You can create new Sprint Backlog Items that are automatically linked to Product Backlog Items by following these steps:

  1. Run the "All Product Backlog Items" Work Item Query
  2. Select the Product Backlog Item that you want to create child Sprint Backlog Items for
  3. Right click the selected Product Backlog Item and select "Add Related Work Item" then select "Sprint Backlog Item" from the context menu

This will create a new Sprint Backlog Item and automatically create a link between the two.

I noticed it last night whilst preparing for a new project.

Cheers,

Hi Scott,

From memory, it tended to just come up with “No data available”. The process template also has some extra bits that get installed onto the TFS box and I suspect that there might need to be some work done in there.

Hi Mitch,

TFS Experience: I became interested in TFS when writing the chapter on SDLC for the SSIS book. I've used it increasingly on projects since last summer (2005) and currently using TFS with Conchango's Scrum for Team System template.

TFS Experience: We've been using TFS in production since it's RTM release, which sadly for the team I installed.  Despite that, we're really in the early days of exploiting the full power of the tool.  Currently we use source control, bugs and tasks effectively.  Next steps are the full development lifecycle, introducing scenarios etc.

Current Projects: Major ones are an Asset Management data aggregation tool and enhancements to our trading tools.  However, we will be working hard on developing supporting infrastructure tools over the next couple of years.
