Hi Mostafa, I am very hesitant about the idea of modifying work item types to allow an item to be assigned to multiple people. It might make life easier for the managers that maintain the project plan but as a developer I really dislike the concept.
How about this - its still a compromise but I can imagine management being more willing to accept it: If you customise your work item type to have an "Alternate Resources" field, you could map a separate column in the project plan to this field. Instead of: Description Resources ---------------------------- Development Task JOHN,ANTON,MARY You would have: Description Resources Alternate Resources ---------------------------------------------------- Development Task JOHN ANTON,MARY At least this way the work item is still assigned to just one person, and the relevant information is preserved. Using the standard template, a work item can only be assigned to one person at a time and I wasn't prepared to experiment with changing this. I basically directed the project manager to break down the tasks in the project plan into a greater level of detail so that assigning each task to one resource made sense. I'm not entirely satisfied with this resolution because it feels like too much of a workaround, but I am yet to find a realistic alternative. For example : 1 Development Task JOHN,ANTON -> THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE UNTIL YOU CREATE A RESOURCE WITH THIS NAME AND SELECT IT ON THE ASSIGNED TO LIST. I'm sure that all of you face this problem ? I want to make sure is there any work around. What I can see, that MS supposed to accept this with comma or semi colon separated and insert multiple resources on the DB for the selected Work Item, AM I wrong ?
