Thanks guys, I didn't realise the retention policy feature was there in TFS2008.

Subject: RE: [OzTFS] Drop folder management

Hi Damian,

Each drop of our software is around 1 Gb and we have a few strategies:

1. We use the following retention policy on our nightly builds:

a. Failed - Keep latest only

b. Partially Succeeded - Keep latest only

c. Stopped - Keep none

d. Succeeded - Keep 5 builds

2. Our CI build usually only keep 1 or 2 builds.

3. The builds are dropped onto a NAS box rather than either the build
machine or TFS machine.

4. We use Nagios to monitor the disk space available on the NAS box and
either expand the space or trim builds when necessary.

5. Builds that should be kept (releases, service packs, hotfixes) are set
to Retain Indefinitely so they're not affected by the retention policy.

William

Subject: [OzTFS] Drop folder management

Just wondering what others are doing for drop folder management? Each build is
resulting in a 170MB drop folder and with CI this adds up very quickly to
multiple GBs per day. Now that our TFS environment is fully virtual this needs
closer attention (as the backup/DR strategy is to backup the VM .vhd
differencing disk file).

Do I lose anything if I purge the drop folder weekly, e.g. test results? Or
should I be pushing to get a cheap 500GB/1TB USB2 drive added to the host
server that I can map as a physical disk to the TFS VM to store drops on?
