I have a confession. I hate Write Traits. Our school bought the whole
program hook, line, and sinker and for 5 years I have had to find some
lessons out of each year that I could utilize. I adapt them for my
writing workshop but honestly, I hate canned programs. I know its a
bias. I find Write traits too cutesy for my students and I'll never
forget trying to use "Topicville" for research paper writing. I "did"
the lesson from the teacher books and handed out the three page
worksheet packet. Finally, at conference time, Trevor looked up from
the worksheets, (they have lots of worksheets) and sighed. I asked
what was up and he looked at me and said,
" You've got to be kidding Mrs. P. Can't we just do workshop? This
stuff is from grade school"
