Thank you for your ideas! I just purchased Nanci Atwell's book but have not read it. I will start today.
I LOVED Stehanie Meyer's Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse--the series. Shared it with my students and they are on it like white on rice. My students are loving Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan. The genre is horror about boys who go to a traveling freak show in town and getting sucked into the show. Both boys and girls are loving this series. Thanks for the Mark Haddon and Maximum Ride suggestions. I will add them to my personal library in class. Stephanie Meyer has a video about her inspiration as an author on YouTube.com. Maybe you can view it here. http://www.youtube.com/user/LittleBrownBooks I wonder if sharing info like this in class, if it would further encourage reading. She lives in Phoenix and is a young mother. Bill, it is so exciting to hear your students are reading like never before. What else are you doing? Do you have book reports or response logs? Or do you only discuss? Thanks so much for your insight and help.
