> What do you do to encourage reading for middle school students at home and > in class? Do you have reading logs for your students or how do you > encourage > reading & responding? > Like TLP, I have embraced Atwell's Reading Zone, and I have to say that my students are reading like crazy! *Twilight*, etc is being read hungrily (pun intended), as is *Runner* by Carl Deuker. I teach 7th and 8th and the students do several things in conjunction with their reading: - Keep a reading record - Log their thoughts about story elements and literary devices - Pair/shares - Book Reviews--no book reports - Wall of Reading--As the students complete books they fill out a slip that gets taped up on the wall. When the wall gets full we have a Book Pary, with food and Book Talks.
