Keeping up with my young adult and juvenile literature, I just
finished "The Lovely Bones." I had never read it back when it was so
popular. It was interesting, intense and definitely for the more
sophisticate older middle school reader. . I can see where "Elsewhere"
could be compared to this novel and offered to the early middle
schooler. I also just finished "The Wednesday Wars" and loved it.
Author Gary D. Schmidt writes in a way that feels, I don't
know...special to the reader. For me, its as if Schmidt walked into my
brain and found words that spoke directly to me. "Lizzie Bright and
the Buckminister Boy," his earlier novel, struck me in much the same
way. I just started "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian"
by Sherman Alexie. Please keep the thread going as I need suggestions
for grown up novels too. I just can't seem to find any that are
written with the same passion as those created for young readers!
