My favorite guide for substantive independent reading is Nancie
Atwell's THE READING ZONE, a short example-packed book. I highly
recommend buying and reading it. It changed my whole approach & like
Nancie, I got impressive results.

Hi,
As a rule, I simply lurk on this site, but I'm trying to re-incorporate
independent reading back into my language arts curriculum. I'm
looking for
help in designing both an independent reading contract for
students/parents
for each trimester and reading log for them to keep and turn in during
the
trimester. If any of you have and use one or both, I'd be interested
in
hearing from you.
Thanks in advance,
