Merrill,

I have used a Skipper head since around 1988.

I removed the Joker valve because it was distorted and useless. There are
two flapper style check valves, on at the bottom of the bowl and one on the
discharge line.

I blanked off the seawater intake and use the shower hose for flush water.

I overhauled it, replacing all the soft parts about ten years ago. I have
had no trouble since then but I can feel that the end of the pump shaft
opposite the long handle is sloppy and will have to be dealt with. I don't
know if the shaft, the hole in the casting it fits into, or both are worn.
I expect I will take the various parts to a machine shop and have them
install a bronze bushing in the casting and perhaps machine the shaft to
fit.

Other than that, it has held up very well.

I do occasionally, when I clean the head, put in a few ounces of head
cleaner we mix up on board. Jan has the recipe somewhere but I think it
was from Peggy Halls web site. It does seem to help keep the pipes cleaned
out.
