What about then the top valve seal, the one that has the valves for the
inlet and outlet switch dies and you have to spend $65 to get the whole
rebuild kit to get a new one? Then as you try to do everything to keep
the thing running, one of the screw posts on the pump assembly breaks
off, which is apparently a common thing.

At first I had thought about just buying a new Jabsco head and taking
the parts needed and putting them on the one in the boat. Then I would
have all of the rest of the parts as spares! The only problem is that
the chances of the parts that are left failing before the seal does
again are slim to none.

Now one thing I am going to do for sure is when I replace this head I am
going to change my inlet line to come from after the filter that I have
in place for the AC. My AC line is teed from the toilet inlet line so
if I put the tee after the filter I will get filtered water instead of
raw water into the head. I know it won't stop everything but at least
the big stuff will stop at the filter. The other thing that will be
nice is when I clean the filter I can use the head to help prime the AC
pump.

I have found that the Jabsco heads last a reasonable time with very
little maintenance. It is more cost effective to replace them when on
their Spring sale than to rebuild. I pour a small amount of veggie oil
into it on occasion to lube it. The joker valve needs replacing ($12)
every year or two, other than that, I've not had problems. I keep spare
joker valves on the boat, 5 minute replacement.

Who sells them and how expensive are they? I can't afford to put a
$400+ head in the boat right now. That is why I am looking at the stuff
in the sub $200 range.
