The elbow on our Perkins 4-236 was aluminum and factory original. It was 
in fine condition when removed after 20 years. Only replaced it because 
I needed to inject the cooling water into the top of the elbow instead 
of the side thereby gaining 1.5" of space for a genny sound shield.
