It really isn't about the price, Jim; it's about the amount of
involvement necessary. I.e., I'd have to sit here in Charleston and wait
for the resistors to come in; then, I'd have to put it all together.
Since that huge clump of resistors won't fit into the AP housing, I'd
now have to cut the wire to the drive unit, insert the resistors -
whoops, all that is going to be sitting out in salt air; better build a
case for it. While I'm at it, those resistors shouldn't just sit there
in the case - they'll couple all that heat into the closed space and
cook themselves, so I guess I'd better rig a heat sink inside the case
to mount them on. Oh yeah... I'll need some kind of external connectors
on the box, too - maybe a terminal strip. I'll also need to find a good
place for mounting this thing - where the heck can I do that along the
route of the wire? - and make sure it doesn't get in the way of anything
else, or jab anyone in the back when they sit down. Oh, and I should
probably make the case waterproof - don't want those solder joints to
oxidize! - and where the heck can I buy a suitable case, heat sink, heat
transfer compound, terminal strip, and suitable screws? Maybe Radio
Shack... yeah, I'll get a taxi... maybe stop by Home Depot if RS doesn't
have everything I need...

I have little doubt that Pending would be born right here in Charleston
if I started down that path. Not what we're aiming for. :)
