You might be in trouble. It is safer to comply with the letter of the law. Think of some cop hungry for promotion believing that the amount of "revenue enhancement" he can bring in has an effect on said promotion.
While there are many reasonable cops out there dedicated to our safety (I don't believe I wrote that!), one must always be prepared for the worst case situation.
