Yikes. Sorry to hear that, and I hope everything turns out OK. As you
know, I'm a pretty avid rider myself - in fact, a bike has been my main
mode of transportation for years now, whenever I stop long enough to
have anything like a home base. While I was in St. Augustine, I put 15k
miles on my Honda Nighthawk in two years. Sure miss that bike...
When I was riding to Jacksonville every day to take a welding course
(~80 mile round trip), I got used to people trying to kill me several
times a day - that's what it looked like, anyway, with people swerving
over into my lane, etc. When I honked, they looked shocked - it was
obvious they hadn't realized I was there.
I've been taking it for granted for years that drivers don't see me, and
riding accordingly. That's not to say that Jan's son is in any way at
fault - I have no idea one way or the other - but assuming that you're
invisible when you're on a bike (yes, even riding two-up and both of you
wearing bright red and yellow jackets) and *always* knowing which way
you're going to escape when someone swerves into you are the only things
that have kept me safe all these years. Well, a good reaction time helps
too. :)

Excellent! He has my best wishes.

[grin] That's often the case when going offshore. But then, if it was
all safe and predictable, it wouldn't be sailing - and many of us
wouldn't be doing it.
