Easy as anything. Take a big chain hook and lash a stainless clip - the
kind that you can use to hold a broom or a flashlight on a wall - to the
back of it. When you want to use it, snap the clip onto the shaft of
your boathook. It grips well enough that you can work it as if it was
solidly attached, but one good yank on the pole and off it comes. I have
no complaints about the one that I made.
