I picked up Trojan Agent 20577 today when I though I was downloading and
running a update to my Firefox. I was running v5 something and the new,
bad, one was a v6.something I think.
After looking on line using Internet Explorer, which wasn't affected, I
first found several sites that offered to sell me a $20 app to correct the
problem.
But then I read that the Trojan checked the "use proxy" box and sent my
Home Page www.google.com request to a bad web site, "goggle.com", that
produced a fake survey whose purpose was to get my phone number to send
spam to. When I looked at the "use proxy" box it wasn't checked,.but the
"Home Page" URL had been changed from "google.com" to "goggle.com".
I uninstalled the Firefox then did a System Restore to about a week ago.
Then reinstalled Firefox from an install file I already had. I did correct
the "Goggle" back to "Google" but I don't exactly remember at what point.
It seems to work OK now. I'll let you all know if I have any trouble
tomorrow.
