Something worth noting, for its long-term effectiveness if nothing else:
back around 2000 or so, I set up my brother's PC with Windows running in
a Linux virtual machine (he needs Windows because of some proprietary
real estate software.) When he wants to surf, or do email, he hits a
couple of keys and he's in Linux, running Firefox and whatever email
program he likes. When he needs his real estate apps or anything else in
Windows, he flips back and uses them.
He hasn't had a single virus or spyware infection in over 10 years now.
And that's without installing any anti-virus software, or having to
learn anything about Linux.
