Hi Anita,

Sounds like a great plan. You will have fun.

We have been through the Bahamas only once, for one month, Dec to Jan
2008-09. We went to Nassau, then across to the Exuma Chain from the
top down to Georgetown.

Nassau was during the Christmas holiday. They have the most fabulous
JUNKANOO celebration (held after midnight on BOXING DAY - Dec 26)
which to us appeared like a rustic Mardi Gras in New Orleans with
fabulous competing celebratory floats, pagentry, and music competing
for the pride of winning. They start right after midnight. Later
that day they have everyone at the Restaurants and bars at FISH FRY, a
wonderful location in its own right a short taxi ride from downtown.
Nassau is not a place I would walk in due to crime concerns.

The other attraction of Nassau we liked was CONCH SALAD like you have
never had. It is under the bridge between the island where the
resort-marina Atlantis is located and the main island. We favored TALL
BOY's stand on advice from another cruiser (but there are many stands
there down below the bridge). They cut up the conch and add the
wonderful ingredients right before your eyes to make an absolutely
great gastronomical delight! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Despite staying in
the pricey Atlantis Marina ($160 a night for our 12 meter catamaran) -
and enjoying the food everywhere - we were happy to leave when
Junkanoo was over.

We enjoyed the Islands in the North part of the Exuma chain most, We
loved Normans Cay and all the parts of the Exuma chain down to Big
Majors. Its all good. Wonderful water and great snorkeling
everywhere. Their national park in Wardrick Wells area was also a
treat.

We did not love the area around Georgetown as much, though those who
favor being around other cruisers and in a somewhat more crowded
cruiser attempts at a fully organized area with daily radio scheduled
activities will enjoy it. We thought it was too much like day care
for adult boaters with all the organization. YMMV.
