Nassau is a good stop for several days, walk around, visit Fish Fry etc, but it
is a city.
Food and fuel will cost about 30% more than US, with junk food items even more,
but supplies are good at the above mentioned stops. Small islands will have
200 square foot stores and will be out of items until mailboat day. Sometimes
there is a shortage of gas, diesel or propane. Some areas have salt in the
public water supply, Marsh Harbor and Georgetown have been good, but you should
taste water before filling, Eleuthera and West End have been bad. US money is
fine, smaller islands may not take creit cards, or may add 5%. Your credit
card company will charge a currency exchange fee. Money machines are on
larger islands and the Scotia Bank at Nassau and Georgetown will give US money
needed to return home.
I will be there after jan , I am going to see about a Bahamas sim card for my
iPad, then I can Skype call home. US cell phones are about $2/ minute, I see
kids arriving with cell phones and using them like home, I bet there is a $500
bill waiting for them.
